On December 4, Lazy Lion, Budapest’s newest cocktail bar, opened its doors, drawing inspiration from the traditions of classic bar culture. Led by Bar Manager Soma Feke, the team behind Lazy Lion aims to bring their international experience home and create a venue in the heart of Budapest that naturally integrates into the global bar scene.

Lazy Lion’s mission is to reintroduce internationally recognized standards of classic cocktail craftsmanship and a guest-centric bar experience—effortlessly balancing relaxed sophistication and elegance—back into the center of urban life. The bar’s philosophy is defined by an approach to hospitality where attentiveness, spontaneity, and elegance are seamlessly present, creating an atmosphere that is both welcoming and distinctive. Its concept draws equally from the traditions of great metropolitan bars in the United States and London, while also embracing the personal, warm style of Mediterranean hospitality.

For Lazy Lion, the essence of a classic drinking experience lies in cocktails that are both complex and refined—perfectly balanced creations that are not reinvented beyond recognition, but instead feel familiar through their noble simplicity. The beverage concept reflects over a decade of professional experience by Soma Feke, with a menu built around iconic classics and modern standards.

The cocktail list features six signature drinks, including Golden Stash, inspired by the golden age of maritime travel. This cocktail showcases a lighter side of cognac, enriched with fresh-pressed apple, vanilla, vetiver, and violet, topped with a white chocolate espuma. Another standout is the playful ¡Ay Padrón!, whose character is defined by Penja pepper and ginger liqueur, complemented by charred padrón peppers and caramelized ginger, creating a bold flavor profile and unforgettable aroma. In addition to the signature creations, the menu section titled “Classic with a Roar” presents four iconic cocktails in reimagined form.

The bar’s elegance is further enhanced by glassware from John Jenkins, one of the world’s oldest glassmakers, established in 1901.

“With Lazy Lion, we aim to return to the foundations of classic comfort bar culture. A bar becomes truly special when guests feel that every detail is tailored to them. Our goal is to elevate even the simplest elements to an exceptional standard—and we believe that achieving this consistently is what makes us authentic,” said Soma Feke, Bar Manager of Lazy Lion.

Lazy Lion is located in the historic Adria Palace, built in 1902, which originally served as the headquarters of the Hungarian Royal Maritime Company. The interiors, situated on Zoltán Street, were designed by the award-winning Spanish Astet Studio, known for its hospitality projects. The generous ceiling heights, vertical spatial structure, dark wood paneling, and art deco details evoke the atmosphere of grand historic hotel bars, while creating a refined and contemporary ambiance.

The venue also pays tribute to Hungary’s maritime heritage. A unique highlight of the cocktail menu is the “Journey Ticket,” a mysterious and immersive drink inspired by the destinations of Adria steamships, from Fiume to Rio de Janeiro. Guests embark on a sensory journey without knowing in advance what flavors await them—and the lucky few may even have their journey extended with a second drink, courtesy of Lazy Lion.

The cocktail bar, located near Szabadság Square, takes its name from a legendary adventurer who is said to have frequently traveled aboard Adria steamships, booking his journeys under the alias “Lazy Lion.” According to lore, his vivid travel accounts became widely known across Budapest, preserving the name’s sense of mystery and spirit of discovery to this day.
